Chandigarh University Wins MAKA Trophy

Chandigarh University (CU) has made a landmark achievement in the world of sports by becoming the first private university in India to win the highly prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy for sports excellence. This prestigious award, presented annually by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, recognizes the top-performing university in competitive sports.

The university’s remarkable achievement is attributed to its outstanding performance at the Khelo India University Games 2024, where Chandigarh University secured a total of 71 medals: 32 gold, 18 silver, and 21 bronze. In addition to their national success, Chandigarh University had a significant representation at the 19th Asian Games, with 22 athletes participating and collectively earning 10 medals for India. This international accomplishment further highlights the university’s dedication to nurturing sports excellence.

The MAKA Trophy was officially presented to Chandigarh University by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, during the National Sports Award ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The university’s Chancellor and Member of Parliament, Satnam Singh Sandhu, expressed immense pride in this achievement, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes and the institution’s support system.
